Our tutors at Cherrybrook Maths Coaching are skilled at communicating mathematical ideas clearly and succinctly. We provide plenty of worked examples and prioritise understanding and fluency first, then problem-solving and reasoning. During each small group math tutoring session, students receive support while practicing problem-solving questions from the resources we provide. We encourage students to show their mathematical thinking and working out clearly in their booklets and sometimes on the whiteboard to aid further discussion. Our goal is to help them develop strong reasoning skills while practicing a wide range of math problems so they are ready for school math exams and develop a love of learning. For more info, see our service offerings pages.
We have some school-specific groups and some mixed-school groups. In our school-specific groups, for example, our CTHS specific group, we teach according to the school’s curriculum. We seek to teach slightly ahead of the school’s pace so that students first LEARN with us and REVIEW when they are at school. This is extremely effective for both retention and confidence-building.
In our mixed groups, we follow our own curriculum, focused on mastering all the key topics for each grade/stage so they are ready for the next level.
We carefully group students based on their similar skill levels whenever possible.
Within each class, we provide as many or as few worked examples as required for each student to build competency. Some students may need only 3 examples, while others may require up to 10. We work closely with each student to ensure they properly understand and can continue independently. We are always there to support students when required.
Most of our math tutoring sessions run for 1 hour per week. Our Year 9 Extension classes run for 90 minutes, as do our Year 10 Adv/Ext and all Stage 6 (Year 11 and 12) classes. If your child is behind and requires additional support to catch up, extra lessons can be requested during the term for an additional fee.
Our focus in each lesson is on teaching students new concepts or reinforcing concepts from our previous lessons. However, at any time, if a student has questions from their school, they are encouraged to bring those questions to class and ask our tutors. We always make time to ensure students’ questions are answered.
We expect all students to complete our homework set, as it is critical to retain what is learned in class. Each week we will set approximately:
In addition to completing homework, students are expected to check their work, mark it against our solution set, and re-attempt any questions answered incorrectly. This process develops critical thinking, problem-solving, and stronger linking and reasoning skills, vital for senior mathematics. All homework must be shown to parents and signed off before the following week.
Yes, our tutors are always available to help students with schoolwork. If students are struggling with specific topics, they are encouraged to bring their schoolwork questions to their tutoring session.
Yes. Prior to your child’s school exam, we provide similar exam questions for practice. You can also request additional exam preparation lessons for an extra fee. We also organise yearly exam preparation days to allow students to sit mock examinations in exam environments.

All tutoring sessions are held at our Cherrybrook Maths Coaching studio, located at 8 Nixon Place, Cherrybrook NSW 2126, just a 5-minute walk from Cherrybrook Technology High School (CTHS). We conveniently serve students from Cherrybrook and the surrounding Hills area.
There is plenty of street parking on Nixon Place and Kentia Parade.
However, we kindly request drivers to not park or idle across driveways or immediately after our driveway. If parking and waiting, park further down the street near Nixon Place and Kentia Parade junction, and drive up only when your child is finished.
We currently do not offer one-on-one private lessons. If you prefer a personalized experience, we can find a class with fewer students for a more individualized experience within a group setting.
Our students attend various schools, including Cherrybrook Technology High School, Castle Hill High School, Carlingford High School, Pennant Hills High School, Pacific Hills Christian School, and many others across the Hills area.
If your child cannot attend a lesson, notify us by 8 am on the day of the lesson. We will offer suitable times for a make-up lesson, which must be used within one month. For details, refer to our Make-Up Policy.
